Meet Gidget!

Gidget – whose real name is Kathy Kohner Zuckerman will be signing copies of her father’s iconic book Gidget, posing for photos, and sharing her memories of surfing in mid-century Malibu from 10:30 AM until 3:30 PM. Back in the 1950s, Kathy Kohner’s dad listened to his fifteen-year-old daughter talk endlessly about her favorite new sport called “surfing” and about the handsome boys on the beach who rode the waves and called his daughter “Gidget” ( short for “girl midget.”) Author Frederick Kohner spun those stories into a cultural phenomenon in his bestselling novel Gidget, which spawned several movies and a hit TV show. Within months of the book’s release, Malibu’s beaches were packed with wannabe surfers, and sleepy little Malibu was sleepy no more.
