The Malibu Pet-A-Palooza

In honor of National “Spay and Neuter” and “Pet Dental Health” month in February, the Malibu Country Mart and Best Friends Animal Society — a national animal welfare organization leading the No-Kill Los Angeles (NKLA) initiative to stop the killing of shelter dogs and cats — are launching a pet-friendly adoption and wellness event called “The Malibu Pet-A-Palooza” on Saturday, Feb. 21.

From noon-3 p.m., pet lovers, Malibu locals and shoppers, will have the chance to adopt a pet as well as receive helpful information and enjoy a variety of wellness booths to keep their four-legged friends healthy and pampered.

Best Friends Animal Society will have many vaccinated, micro-chipped and spayed or neutered kittens, puppies, cats and dogs available for adoption. Each new pet parent will receive an adoption kit complete with a customized pet ID tag, one month of pet insurance, and a bag of Natural Balance pet food. Additionally, Malibu Coast Animal Hospital will offer a complimentary Rescue Exam for all animals adopted at the event. A driver’s license or valid form of ID is required for adoption as well as a collar, leash or carrier to take pets home. Best Friends Animal Society will also have select merchandise available for purchase, including collars, leashes and carriers along with other pet essentials. All profits from the merchandise will benefit the organization.

The Country Mart will also turn into a pet sanctuary for animal lovers and their furry friends with a pet costume contest, a collection of booths focusing on wellness and health and special guest appearances from celebrity dogs. The pet costume contest will be hosted by PawPack, an all-natural, organic, eco-friendly monthly pet product membership, starting at 2 p.m. by the Jester Fountain. First, second and third prizes including toys, treats and chews will be awarded. Health and wellness booths will be provided by Malibu Coast Animal Hospital, where pet owners can sign up for discounted dental cleanings for their dogs through March in honor of Pet Dental Health, and PawPack will offer samples with boxes that include treats, toys and other goodies available for purchase.

Additionally, there will be a meet-and-greet with Instagram pups Toothfairypixie and Underbiteunite from noon-3 p.m. Toothfairypixie is most known for being a puppy mill dog that lost all of her teeth due to poor health conditions, while Daisy, better known as Daisy Underbite, was born with her front legs paralyzed and uses a wheel cart to walk. Guests can take pictures with the special needs dogs and also purchase @Toothfairypixie and @Underbiteunite merchandise, with a portion of the proceeds going to NKLA.
